About this medication. Rybelsus is the only oral GLP-1 medication currently available in Canada: once-daily oral semaglutide, authorized by Health Canada for type 2 diabetes. It must be taken on an empty stomach with a small amount of plain water, with nothing else for at least 30 minutes. Suited to patients who cannot or prefer not to inject; any off-label use is the prescriber's decision.

About this medication. Contrave is not a GLP-1. It is a fixed-dose combination of naltrexone and bupropion, authorized by Health Canada for chronic weight management. It works through different mechanisms than the GLP-1 medications and may be considered when a GLP-1 is unsuitable, ineffective, or unaffordable.
